8 Useful Health Tips to Stay on Track While You Travel

To travel is to live said Hans Christian Anderson, the famous Danish author. Traveling is a passion for some, whereas for some it may be a compulsion.

While we all have earned a much-needed vacation, maintaining healthy eating habits while traveling can be a big challenge especially when you are trying to knock off those extra kilos. Usually while traveling, airports, railway stations or street food stops are flooded with unhealthy options. Hence avoiding unhealthy foods is tough enough as it is, but it can seem impossible if you can’t locate a healthy joint.

Well, do not fret! Here are 8 tips to help you stay healthy when you get started on your travel plans again.

1. Go nutty

A nut box is always handy while traveling. Mix your favourite combinations of nuts and make small portioned snack bags.

2. Stay hydrated

Carry a bottle of water wherever you go and keep sipping throughout the day. Sometimes thirst may be mistaken for hunger.

3. Make your own nutritious home-made Granola Bars

In case you love cooking and want to stay light, granola bars are the best option for you. Follow this easy to make recipe –

Ingredients –

Almonds – ½ cup chopped

Pista – ½ cup chopped

Raisins – ¼ cup

Oats – ½ cup – Roasted

Flax seeds – ¼ cup

Dates – ¼ cup de-seeded and chopped

Honey – 2 Tbsp

Butter – For greasing pan

Method –

Roast Oats, Almonds, Pista, Dates and Flaxseeds separately and transfer into a large mixing bowl.

In a saucepan, honey to a boil over medium heat. Simmer until the sugar in it dissolves and a light brown caramel is formed.

Grease a pan with butter and pour the caramel over the nut and oat mixture and mix well.

Pour the mixture into the baking dish and spread out into an even layer. Cover the pan with a second piece of parchment and press down to compress the bars. Let the mixture stand for about 2 hours until firm.

Cut into equal squares or rectangle shaped bars and wrap them tight in plastic wraps.

4. Carry fruits

Always keep at-least 1 serving of fruit with you. You never know when it might come handy.

5. Browse restaurant menus in advance before your visit

In today’s tech-savvy world, wherever you go internet follows you. It will be a good idea to make it useful for browsing menus in restaurants before visiting.

6. Stay off booze

Alcoholic drinks make you feel sluggish and may lead to water-retention. It is best to stay off hard drinks while traveling

7. Eat slowly & split meals

Enjoy your food and try to grasp the flavors of your food while eating. Do not stay hungry for longer durations as that increases chances to indulge in larger portion sizes when you sit for the next meal.

8. Don’t forget to move around

The best way to explore a new place is by foot. Ditch the cab ride and walk your way around exploring, burning calories simultaneously too.

So next time you travel, you are going to be prepared for a healthy journey!
