Naachiyaar Kitchen, T.Nagar:
Came to know about this place after reading an article in a Newspaper. What caught my interest is that the Chef of this place was mentored under Late Chef Jacob, who I'll always have an immense respect for. Another factor that kindled my interest was the Moongil Biryani concept that this place offers. So, it was mandatory that I check this place out, as soon as I can.
The Menu is quiet interesting and there has been an attempt to retain traditional style but a with a modern twist wherever needed. Say, for example the Bamboo Biryani. Seeraga Samba Rice Biryani cooked in Coconut Milk and finished in a Bamboo Container. Of course, the theatrics of serving Biryani from the Bamboo Container brings in an element of excitement. The Biryani was perfectly made, non-greasy, small grains that would break in your palate easily, aromatic and full of flavours, good amount of well cooked Mutton. That's pretty much the description of this Sutta Moongil Biryani (Mutton - ₹250).
The second dish that sweeped me off completely was the Pandiyanaatu Kari Kuzhambu (₹260). Very mild in flavour with spot-on spices, good number of Mutton along with Drumstick and Potatoes pieces. This Kuzhambu got clubbed well with Poricha Parotta (₹90). Crispy bites of Poricha Parotta along with this Kuzhambu was Brilliant.
Coming to the starting of this meal the most impressive item among the starters was Aranmanai Kozhi (₹210). The taste of nuts (Cashew and Peanuts) along with masalafied chicken was top-notch. One thing about Naachiyaar Kitchen that really needs to be commended is that they have not over done their Masala or Spices. I really appreciate that. Kadal Unavu Urundai (₹270) was very good. Biggest relief for me was that the seafood wasn't smelling at all. Kulithalai Vazhaipoo Varuval (₹120) was good but personally for me it needed some kind of a lift. Probably a little more life to the dish as I felt it was flat. Paalkatti Milagu Varuval (₹150) was good.
The meal ended with Elaneer Payasam (₹160) which was light but little too sweet for me, personally. My order was Paruthipaal Halwa but what came to the table was Nendrampazha Halwa (₹140). Me being Me, shamelessly asked for a tasting portion of Paruthipaal Halwa. Loved both equally!
